How much accounting costs in Armenia and what drives the price
What drives the price
An accountant is not selling a report but their time and responsibility. More documents and more taxes mean more work.
- IE or LLC
An LLC keeps full accounting records and files financial statements. An IE mainly keeps tax records, which is simpler. - Tax regime
Micro-business and turnover tax mean a minimum of reporting. The general regime means VAT, profit tax and expense accounting. - VAT
A return every month by the 20th, plus reconciliation of e-invoices. This is one of the main reasons the price goes up. - Number of transactions
Every entry, invoice and acceptance certificate has to be recorded. Ten transactions a month and 500 are very different jobs. - Employees
Payroll, income tax, pension contributions, monthly calculations and HR paperwork. - Foreign trade
Import and export mean customs declarations, EAEU rules, currency contracts and exchange rate differences.
To get an exact quote rather than a "from" price, prepare five answers: IE or LLC, which regime, how many bank transactions a month, how many employees, and whether you import or export. And hand over documents on time: if your accountant has to chase acceptance certificates and statements, that is their time too.
What a service package usually includes
- Recording bank transactions and source documents.
- Calculating taxes, filing returns and deadline reminders.
- Issuing or checking e-invoices.
- For an LLC: bookkeeping and annual financial statements.
- If you have employees: payroll and payroll taxes.
- Answers to routine tax authority requests and day-to-day advice.
Extra fees usually apply for restoring neglected records, support during a tax audit, a change of tax regime, handling bank compliance requests (see business bank account in Armenia) and translations. If you are a freelance IE with no employees, a workable setup is a consultation when you register your IE, then filing on your own and calling in an accountant for complex cases.
5 questions to ask an accountant before signing
- What is included in the package, and what counts as a "transaction"? Ask for the list in writing.
- What happens if, in a given month, you go over the transaction limit?
- Who pays fines and penalties if an error or late filing is the accountant's fault?
- Who exactly will handle your books, and how quickly do they respond to an urgent request from the tax authority or the bank?
- How are documents and access handed over, and how do you get them back if the contract ends?
Ask every candidate the same questions and compare the answers, not just the price. Put the verbal answers into the contract. That way it is clear what is "included" and what is not.
Common mistakes
- Comparing only the number on the price list, not the scope of service and the transaction limit. Similar prices often hide very different amounts of work.
- Paying for a full package when an IE on turnover tax with three payments a quarter would be fine with consultations.
- Cutting corners on accounting when you have VAT and employees. Payroll and VAT errors lead to fines, and then you also have to pay to restore your records.
Note: the government plans to raise the micro-business threshold from 24 to 50 million drams from 2027, but this is not yet law.
Frequently asked questions
What affects the price of accounting services in Armenia?
The main factors are your business form, tax regime, VAT, number of transactions, employees and foreign trade. Turnover on its own has little effect on the price.
Why is accounting more expensive for a VAT payer in Armenia?
VAT means filing a return every month by the 20th plus reconciling e-invoices. This extra work is one of the main reasons the price of accounting goes up.
What is usually included in an accounting service package in Armenia?
Typically recording bank transactions and documents, calculating taxes and filing returns, issuing or checking e-invoices, and routine advice. For an LLC it adds annual financial statements, and payroll if you have employees.
What should I ask an accountant in Armenia before signing a contract?
Ask what the package includes and what counts as a transaction, what happens if you exceed the limit, who pays fines for the accountant's errors, who will handle your books and how documents are returned if the contract ends.
